INTRODUCTION Sex remains the key sorting factor in most of the world’s societies. It is widespread that male are paid a lot more for the same work and they generally dominate the socio-cultural, economic and political aspects of the society. In contrast, females are discriminated against economically, politically and socially (Henslin, 1996:315). Gender equality does not necessarily mean equal numbers of men and women or girls and boys in all activities, nor does it mean treating them in the same way. Introduction With the global spread of highly pathogenic Avian influenza (HPAI) across several countries since 2003 and especially, the confirmation of the epidemic in Nigeria, there is a new attention focused on the sub-sector by the Government of Nigeria (GoN) and the international community.
